How we use AI

We write about AI, and sometimes we use it. Here is exactly how, so you can judge our work.

Every article has a person behind it

An author writes each article, and a different person, an editor, reviews and approves it before it's published. Nothing is published automatically.

Labels

Each article carries one of three labels:

• No label: written without AI tools beyond spelling and grammar checks.
• AI-assisted: AI helped (for example with an outline, a summary or suggested tags). A person wrote the article and checked every fact.
• AI-generated: an AI system drafted most of the text; an editor rewrote and checked it. We use this rarely and say what was generated.

Our editing tool records when its AI assistant is used, and the label can't be set to “none” after that.

What we never do

• Publish AI output without a person reading and approving it.
• Invent quotes, sources or people.
• Copy other publications' articles. News pieces are our own summaries that link to and credit the source.
• Train AI models on your posts.

Costs and limits

Our AI assistant is switched off unless it's configured, and it has a hard daily spending cap.
