Chapter 533 I Shall Do The Same

As they had covered up the news of the accident and the ambush, nobody else knew about it.

Annie’s question sounded as though she was genuinely concerned about Gwendolyn’s well-being.

Gwendolyn was so tired that she decided to ignore Annie by keeping her eyes closed and pretending to be asleep.

“It’s nothing major. She’ll get discharged in two days,” Cedrick replied coldly, then fiddled with his wristwatch. “Fate

sure loves bringing us together, Paul. We’ve only been in Astoria for a few days, but we’ve run into you so many

times now.”

We ran into him at the museum, on the streets, and even when Gwendolyn is secretly staying at the hospital. Are

those encounters really just coincidences, or is there more to it?

“Yeah, it sure does. Well, Ms. Harris and Annie are women, and women love shopping, so it makes sense that we

would run into each other often. As for this encounter, I just happened to bring Annie here for a checkup.” Paul said

with a chuckle. He then shifted his gaze toward Gwendolyn. “Ms. Harris’ condition seems rather serious. I wonder if

it’s due to her overworking lately. If that’s the case, how about you hand me Dovil Group’s collaboration contract so

I can help relieve some of her burdens?”

Cedrick shot him an icy-cold glance. “I don’t need an outsider worrying about my wife.”

The look on Paul’s face changed slightly as he replied, “Yes, you’re right. I shouldn’t have said that. However, I

would like to talk to Ms. Harris about the collaboration contract now that I’m here. Ms. Harris, are you sure you

don’t want to reconsider it?”

Gwendolyn opened her eyes and tried to sit upright in bed.

Cedrick quickly stepped forward and helped support her back with a pillow.

“There’s nothing wrong with you wanting the collaboration contract, Mr. Hall.”

Paul’s eyes lit up when he heard that.

Gwendolyn then let out a snort as she continued, “However, you will have to take it from me through legitimate

means. If you resort to underhanded methods, then I shall respond in kind.”

Paul’s tense expression and slightly twitching lips made it obvious that he was displeased.

Realizing that the atmosphere was getting tense, Annie tried her best to defuse the situation.

“Ms. Harris-”

“That’s enough. Gwenny needs to get some rest, and she can’t rest well if there are too many people in here.

Please leave, you two,” Cedrick cut her off before she could say anything further.

As Paul wasn’t planning on staying around for too long anyway, he called out to Annie, “Come on, Honey. Let’s go.”

Annie nodded and walked toward the door.

On her way out, she turned around and said with an innocent smile, “Do take care, Ms. Harris. You’ve spent the past

twenty years living a smooth and comfortable life, but life won’t be complete without experiencing some challenges

from time to time. Don’t you think so?”

Gwendolyn glared coldly at her as she replied, “I’m not sure when that’ll happen, but I have a feeling you will be

experiencing some challenges soon, Ms. Annic. Do be careful when walking in heels. You’ll be surprised at how

easily a fall can result in broken bones.”

As though she were oblivious to Gwendolyn’s sarcasm, Annie responded with a sweet smile, “Thank you for your

concern, Ms. Harris. I do indeed find the hospital floor to be a little slippery, so I will be extra careful.”

Paul wrapped an arm around Annie’s waist and led her out of the ward.

Gwendolyn’s expression was icy-cold when the door closed behind them.

She shifted her gaze toward the fruits and flowers on the nightstand and said, “Have someone throw these out.

Don’t even touch them.”

Cedrick would have done that even if she didn’t say so.

He quickly summoned a nurse to dispose of those items and disinfect the nightstand with alcohol.

“Gwenny, how likely do you think Paul is behind this attack?”

“It was about forty percent at first, but it rose to sixty percent after they showed up at my ward and pretended to

care about my well-being.” Gwendolyn replied.

Cedrick poured her a glass of water and fed it to her. “In that case, I suspect him slightly more than you do. I’d say

my level of suspicion is about seventy percent.”

“Where did that extra ten percent come from?” Gwendolyn asked in confusion.

“The gifts that Paul brought over. If they were simply here for a medical checkup and came in a hurry after finding

out about your hospitalization, they wouldn’t have bought so many gifts in advance. It’s obvious that they have

been keeping an eye on us and came over after finding out about your hospitalization.”

Gwendolyn exhaled sharply. “But these are all merely speculations until we obtain solid evidence.”

“We can forget about obtaining evidence on Paul. I know him. The fact that he had the audacity to waltz in here and

demand the collaboration contract means he must have destroyed all evidence beforehand. It’s a common tactic

employed by Ospean nobility,” Cedrick said calmly while gazing at the sunset outside the window.

Despite the warm glow it cast into the room, Cedrick felt no comfort from it whatsoever. His feelings were directly

influenced by that of Gwendolyn’s.

He shared her feelings of joy and distress, so his mood was largely dependent on hers.

Gwendolyn remained calm after hearing what he said. “Harris Group still needs to collaborate with Dovil Group. If

Neal can’t find anything, then forget about it. There’s no need to make things difficult for him.”

“Are you going to let the mastermind get away with this?” Cedrick asked.

Let him get away with this? As if I always get my revenge on those who wrong me! “We will return the favor if we

are able to obtain any evidence to prove them guilty. If they love to play dirty, then I shall do the same. Let’s see

what this Ospean count is capable of!”

Cedrick gently caressed her cheek and kissed her affectionately on the lips.

“Just do whatever you believe is right, Gwenny. I will support you as your rook.”

Gwendolyn let out a snicker and said, “I don’t want a rook, though.”

“What do you want, then?”

Gwendolyn beckoned at him to come closer before whispering, “I prefer if you would be my steed so I could ride

you all day long.”

Her weak voice made her look all the more vulnerable, which stimulated Cedrick’s desire to protect her

even more.

Cedrick swallowed hard as he tried to hold his lust back, but Gwendolyn continued to toy with him.

She ran her icy-cold fingers over his carlobe, giving him goosebumps all over.

He grabbed Gwendolyn’s hand and kissed the back of it. “Cut it out, Gwenny! You know how I can’t resist you. Stop

tempting me, or I will lose control! You’re injured, and concussions have a long recovery period. As difficult as it

may be, I need to keep my hands off you until you’re fully healed. Stop making it any more difficult for me.”

It wasn’t Gwendolyn’s intention to tempt him, but she felt the urge to get intimate with him after regaining

consciousness.

“I’m hungry, Hubby.”

Cedrick picked up his phone and got ready to call the hospital cafeteria. “What would you like to eat, Gwenny?”

“I’m hungry, but I don’t have much of an appetite, so get me something light.”

“All right.”

Being a decisive man, Cedrick proceeded to order the food according to her preferences.

Tension was through the roof at the police station after the incident at the hospital in Astoria.
