Chapter 242 Live Well With Josephine

Josephine’s eyes blinked as she stared at Nancy, wanting Nancy to tell her what she did wrong.

But Nancy only said, “I wanted to get rid of you. But seeing how pitiful you are, I’ll leave you here to

reflect on yourself. I’ll let you out when Lewis finally gets married.”

Josephine’s eyes widened as emotions flashed through them. She understood every word from Nancy,

but she couldn’t comprehend what she was saying once combined.

What did she mean by … until Lewis got married?

Fury rose in Nancy’s chest when she saw Josephine’s face. “Can you stop acting so pitiful, you

freaking mute? Seeing those eyes of yours, I wish I could dig them out right here!”

Scared, Josephine quickly lowered her gaze, not daring to look at Nancy anymore.

But Nancy got even angrier. She was so furious that she began to cackle. She told the maid. standing

beside her, “Look at this slut. She must have been luring Lewis by acting like that!

“As if I’ve wronged her. Tell me, do you think I’d have locked you up if you hadn’t been sticking by

Lewis’ side all this while?

“This is all your fault, Josephine. Don’t blame me for this.”

Eyes on her own toes, Josephine’s head hung low. She didn’t respond.

Noticing how she was still gripping the metal bars with no sign of giving up, an evil smile. appeared on

Nancy’s face. She stood up suddenly. “Block this door from the outside.”

Josephine jerked her head up. She looked at Nancy as if she was begging and shook her head

profusely.

But Nancy pretended to see nothing. The more she begged like this with her eyes, the more Nancy

wanted to see her become hopeless as if it would soothe the fury in her chest.

“Do it!”

Josephine’s eyes turned bloodshot. She shook the metal bar hard, wishing to break it and

escape.

But she couldn’t.

She could only watch as the bodyguard brought over a wooden plank, blocking out the last stream of

light before her eyes.

The plank was set between rocks and was pushed closely onto the metal bars. The bodyguard even

kicked the plank a few times. Josephine’s fingers were stuck in between the bars and the plank. It was

so painful that she almost blacked out.

The bodyguard found a wooden pole to hold against the outside of the plank so that no matter how

hard Josephine pushed from the inside, she wouldn’t be able to move the plank.

Anyone standing outside could see clearly how the plank was shaking. It was Josephine who was

pushing the plank from the inside.

However, it wouldn’t be of much use.

Not only that, she couldn’t scream. She could only keep all the despair and hopelessness to herself

and show signs of begging by shaking the plank feebly.

The feeble movements of the plank made the bodyguard feel sympathy for her. It was as if he could

hear screams for help and the despair from the mute through the trembling plank.

Because of this, when Nancy wasn’t looking, the bodyguard lifted the corner of the plank slightly so that

some light could go through.

Josephine stopped herself. Tears rolled down her cheeks as she looked at the tiny bit of light from the

corner.

It was like fireflies. The light had become the only hope for her in this pitch-black world.

For a second, she thought she could see Lewis standing outside, coming here to save her like last

time.

He was walking over to her, unlocking the door that locked her up in this hellish place, bringing her

light.

Nancy felt annoyed looking at the moving plank, so she turned and left.

She wanted to kill Josephine but was afraid Lewis would find out about this. Their relationship was

already bad, and she would definitely lose him if she did that to the mute.

That was why she could only lock the mute girl up, then force Lewis to get married before letting her

out again.

By then, she wouldn’t have to worry about the mute anymore.

Josephine slid down the wall into a sitting position. She smiled weakly with her eyes still on the tiny

stream of light.

It was her imagination, after all. He didn’t come to save her. The light was still dim as ever, and she was

still in the dark.

Curling up into a ball, she buried her head in between her knees. She was chilled to the bone, trapped

in this cold basement.

Her clothes were all wet, and coldness crept into her body, causing her to tremble so much.

Simultaneously, Lewis had reached the designated location as instructed by the kidnappers.

He blinked his eyes when he saw the tiny wooden cabin in the forest. He then opened the car

door and went out.

The rain had subsided to a drizzle, but water droplets continued to cascade from the leaves. and

branches above, pattering against the umbrella.

He walked toward the cabin with a silver suitcase.

The pin-drop silence seemed to suggest that there was nobody around.

After pushing open the door to the wooden cabin, the first thing he saw was Sierra being tied up

against a pole, blindfolded, and her mouth taped up.

She instantly struggled and moved the moment she heard the door being opened. Only whimpers

could be heard from her mouth.

Lewis threw the suitcase away, walked forward to tear the tape off her mouth, and removed

her blindfold.

Seeing Lewis, tears streamed down her face as she sobbed uncontrollably. She opened her mouth and

spoke with difficulty, “Lewis…”

There was nothing but love in her eyes. At that moment, the love she had for Lewis had reached its

peak.

Lewis didn’t bother. Instead, he checked the metal chain that was used to tie Sierra up.

“They’re so attentive to the details.” Lewis snickered.

The

way they tied Sierra up perfectly replicated how Lily’s children were tied was obvious what they

intended to do here.

They were trying to replicate the scene.

Sierra spoke anxiously, “Lewis, it’s him. It’s your brother-in-law!”

That didn’t get much reaction out of Lewis.

Sierra said while crying, “He said he wanted you to have a taste of the sufferings his children had.

What’s going on? Did his children…”

Words stuck in her mouth. She turned quiet when Lewis lifted his head to look at her.

Nonetheless, Lewis was here to save her. He was willing to be in danger just for her safety. For that

reason, whatever he did to her in the past could never diminish her love for him. In fact, it only made

her love him much more than before.

“Can you untie this, Lewis?”

“No.”

His tone was calm, with no hints of anxiety, starkly contrasting the distressed Sierra by his

side.

Of course, Sierra should be distressed. After all, she was the one being tied up. Lewis could still

escape if anything happened, but she could only stay here to wait for her death.

But seeing Lewis was here to save her, Sierra didn’t feel as scared anymore. It was like even death

was being generous with her.

“Lewis, if they start a fire, just go, leave me here.”

Lewis stopped his movements for a second before continuing to examine the metal chain.

Sierra still spoke as if she was telling him her last wishes. “I’m so happy to see you here. I really

thought you didn’t love me.

“But that’s not important anymore. I’ll love you even if you don’t.

“If I die, live … live well with that mute. I don’t trust you with other women.

“Those women are just too possessive and aggressive. I don’t want to see my lover being controlled by

those women.

“Also, I don’t want my portrait at the funeral to be black and white. I want it to be the picture you took for

me in the mountains. That’s my favorite picture. It’s also the only picture you took of me.

“I don’t want dirge being played at the funeral too. I want…”

Just as Sierra was still rambling on and on, Lewis cut her off suddenly, “Shut up!”

She was dumbfounded. But before she could react, a distinct smell of smoke reached her nostrils,

causing her to scrunch up her nose in alarm.

Sierra turned her head and found that there was indeed smoke coming in through the gaps in

the wall.

Eyes wide opened, her face turned chalk-white instantly. She started crying again.

“Lewis, don’t try to untie me anymore. Go now, leave me!”
