Chapter 238 What a Joke

Lewis put her down. He then pulled out his phone to turn it off before sitting beside Josephine and

eating with her.

After staring at him for a moment, Josephine finally picked up her cutleries and started eating.

Strangely enough, Lewis kept wanting to feed her.

Eyes on the spoon in front of her face, Josephine opened her mouth unwillingly and swallowed the

porridge.

She could only wonder what Lewis was trying to do as she snuck a glance at him. On the other hand,

he kept feeding her on his own accord, not bothered to know if she could still eat.

Josephine couldn’t help but feel like a toy being cared for by Lewis, especially during moments when

he helped her shower or feed her. It was just like how she used to love dressing up

and combing hair for her baby doll. She was just like his toy.

After feeding her for half an hour, Josephine couldn’t eat anymore. She turned her face away, hinting

that she was full.

“Last bite. Be a good girl.”

Pursing her lips, Josephine rubbed her round tummy. She forced down a feeling of nausea as she

gulped down the piece of meat.

At the same time, the doorbell was ringing persistently.

Stunned, Josephine looked up to watch Lewis.

Lewis frowned. After a while, he set his cutleries down and said, “Go to bed first.”

Josephine didn’t say anything to that. She got up and headed upstairs.

Lewis stood up. He opened the door to see Sierra standing at the entrance, completely

drenched.

The moment the door was pushed open, she dashed right into Lewis’ arms.

“Why didn’t you pick up my call, Lewis?”

Hearing Sierra’s cry, Josephine stopped in her last step and turned over instinctively. All she could see

was the two embracing each other.

She couldn’t move an inch. Her eyes were fixated on the two people standing at the doorstep.

She had never felt so much mockery in her life until this moment. It was like a hard slap across

her face.

The man who had been tending to her moments ago was now embracing another woman. All

the happiness and gratitude she had experienced earlier felt like a cruel joke now.

Meanwhile, Lewis lowered his head to look at Sierra. He only spoke when she was done

bawling, “Why are you here?”

Sierra raised her tear-streaked face. She had on a pitiable look as she anxiously studied Lewis’ face.

“Are you mad at me, Lewis? I can explain everything.”

“You don’t have to. I believe you,” Lewis cut Sierra off.

For a moment, Sierra was too stunned to continue crying. “You…

Sierra was at a loss. “You believe me?”

Lewis gently brushed aside the wet strands of hair from her face, displaying no trace of disgust. “Of

course.”

Despite the lack of visible emotions on his face, his words didn’t carry a tone of mockery. Suddenly,

Sierra found herself unable to articulate everything she wanted to convey to him at that moment…

The feelings of guilt and hurt filled her up, making it difficult for Sierra to look Lewis in the

eyes.

“I… I, that man…” She wanted to lie and pretend nothing had happened, but the words couldn’t form in

her mouth when she saw the trust in Lewis’ eyes.

Arranging her hair, Lewis solemnly said, “Alright, I get it. You’re all wet.”

Then, he instructed Mrs. Larson, who was standing at the side, “Get her a pair of clothes.”

Dumbfounded, Mrs. Larson asked hesitantly, “Where might Miss Woods’ room be?”

Mrs. Larson was confused for a moment. She could tell that Sierra had a relationship with Lewis, even

though Lewis’ wife was just upstairs. Mrs. Larson concluded to herself, “Perhaps the lives of the rich

are always messy like this.”

“Just grab any clothes. Go now!”

An idea popped up in Mrs. Larson’s mind. She quickly bowed before running upstairs to Josephine’s

bedroom. She knocked on the door.

Josephine, who was still throwing up, couldn’t hear anything from the inside.

Noticing the door wasn’t closed, Mrs. Larson entered the room bravely. Right after she heard the sound

of Josephine throwing up, she dashed over.

“What’s going on? Madam!” When Mrs. Larson reached her and tried to look, Josephine had already

flushed her vomit down the toilet bowl.

Josephine wiped her mouth with a sleeve. She met Mrs. Larson’s eyes and gestured, “I had too much

food. Don’t worry.”

Hesitating for a bit, Mrs. Larson looked at the toilet bowl, then at Josephine’s chalk-white face. “Why

don’t we get a doctor for you?”

Josephine shook her head. Just when she was about to sign something again, her stomach churned as

she started throwing up again, her body limping against the toilet bowl.

She had already thrown up all the food she had had. All that came out now was just water.

Her stomach was churning so badly that she thought her intestines had twisted together, forcefully

expelling everything from within.

After she was done puking, she sat weakly on the ground, not daring to move even an inch.

“Are you feeling okay, madam?” Mrs. Larson asked, concerned.

Josephine shook her head as she signed, “I’m okay.”

Mrs. Larson wasn’t convinced. But since Josephine had said that herself, she refrained from delving

further into the matter.

“Oh, yes. Madam, sir asked me to bring a set of clothes downstairs. Which one do you should bring?”

think I

There was no energy left in Josephine at that moment. She couldn’t even differentiate whether it was

her stomach or her heart that was hurting. She signed breathlessly, “You can choose anything.”

Mrs. Larson answered, “Okay.” She left the room after that. Then, she headed to Josephine’s closet

and simply chose an outfit.

But when she reached downstairs, the living room was empty. No one was there at all.

Befuddled, Mrs. Larson began searching around the house, her gaze darting from place to place. Her

certainty about Lewis’s departure solidified when she noticed that his coat, previously resting on the

couch, was now missing.

Mrs. Larson let out a sigh, her thoughts murmuring, “Men, they can’t be trusted after all.”

Despite having a wife at home, he had another woman out there, and he displayed such openness

about it that Mrs. Larson couldn’t help but feel a sense of injustice for Josephine.

Bringing the outfit back to Josephine’s bedroom, Mrs. Larson saw that Josephine had already

staggered out of the bathroom. Seeing how unstable Josephine’s steps were, Mrs. Larson immediately

went up to support her.

“Are you alright, madam?”

Josephine nodded. She sat on her bed with Mrs. Larson’s help. Noticing the clothes in Mrs. Larson’s

hands, she signed, “Are they gone?”

Mrs. Larson looked uneasy as she nodded. “There was nobody around when I went downstairs.

I’ll put your clothes back into the closet.”

Afterward, she brought the clothes to the walk-in closet and hung them up. She came out and asked

Josephine, “Madam, are you sure you don’t need to see a doctor?”

Josephine shook her head. “I’m tired. I just need some rest.”

“Okay. Rest well, then. I’ll go downstairs now. Call me with the phone by your bedside when you need

it.”

The phone was set up on the day before yesterday when Conrad installed the surveillance cameras.

This phone was for Josephine to call anyone at home when she needed it.

Josephine lay down. It was quiet in the house, but the sound of light rain outside could be heard.

It was raining again.

Gently closing her eyes, the image of the two embracing each other downstairs flashed across her

mind. The thought made her stomach churn.

She curled into a ball and covered her head with the blanket.

Lewis never came back home that night.

He was at the mall with Sierra to buy her a new set of clothes.

Sierra pleaded with him to shop for clothes together like back then, but it was just to test him. She

didn’t expect him to say yes.

After changing into new clothes, she twirled around in front of the mirror. Through the reflection, she

could see Lewis sitting on a couch opposite her while using his phone, and his head hung low.

He was so attractive that he stood out no matter where he was. Even the shop assistant couldn’t help

but sneak a few glances at him.

Seeing the envy in their eyes, Sierra felt immensely satisfied with herself. Only she deserved to have

such a perfect man.

He trusted her without asking anything, so what more could she ask for? If it were another man, she’d

probably be murdered by him already. But Lewis didn’t. He still treated her as well. as before.

He further demonstrated his support by issuing a statement, affirming his allegiance to her in the

aftermath of the incident.

Thinking of this, Sierra couldn’t help but smile in glee. She walked to Lewis’ side and sat down.

Tugging his elbow, she said, “Come to my place later, Lewis.”
