Chapter 103 Where Did You Think I’d Go?

Quintin’s back stiffened, and he turned to glare at Jack before sheepishly smiling at Josephine. “Ignore

him. I was merely dropping by to visit, but I guess everything’s fine now that you’re awake.”

Josephine signed, “How much did you pay for my hospital fees?”

“It wasn’t much. Don’t worry about it,” Quintin answered, feeling slightly guilty.

Josephine could tell from the former’s clothes that he wasn’t a regular person. Similarly, she believed

he likely came from a prestigious background since he could attend the social event earlier. With that in

mind, she decided to repay him some other time, so she changed the topic and signed, “What

orphanage were you talking about?”

Lips curving into a smile, Quintin explained, “It’s the welfare association my dad previously set up. He

stopped running it, so I took over. However, I realized how pitiful the less fortunate. are once I visited

the place, so 1 occasionally volunteer there and keep an eye on the association.”

“Oh, so that’s what he means by teaching kids there. No wonder he saved me. Most average people

would avoid me like the plague once they find out I was in Lewis’ car,” Josephine mused and nodded.

She then signed, “You’re amazing.”

“That’s nothing,” Jack piped up, “Quintin also started an animal shelter. Many stray cats and dogs now

have somewhere to stay because of him.”

Hearing all that made Quintin flustered, so he shrugged it off. “I’m merely doing what I can to help.”

In the two, Josephine saw a kind of vitality and vigor that she seldom noticed in others or herself. Her

eyes twinkled with envy at how the two could pour their efforts into doing meaningful things and

whatever they liked.

Noticing the disappointment in her eyes, Quintin couldn’t help but ask, “What’s wrong? You don’t seem

happy. Hmm. How about this? I’ll take you to see all the cute cats and dogs once.

you recover.”

Josephine was in the middle of a nod when she held herself back, shaking her head instead. While she

wanted to go, she knew there was no way Lewis would allow it. Thus, she signed, I’m not interested,

but thank you.”

At the same time, she thought, “If Lewis won’t even let me see Mrs. Jinkins, it’s less likely he’ll approve

of me visiting an animal shelter. I’ve already gotten Avery in trouble, so I can’t let the same happen to

these two kind men. It’s probably best if I distance myself from them.”

“That’s a shame,” said Quintin, “But it’s okay. The offer still stands for whenever you change your

mind.”

With a nod, Josephine motioned, “How much are my hospital fees? I’ll pay you back.”

Quintin raised both hands at once. “No, it’s fine. The fees aren’t that much. It’s barely enough to afford

me one bag of kibble.”

Josephine lowered her gaze and fell silent.

Feeling awkward, Quintin looked around while he asked, “Oh, right. Do you need me to help contact

your family?”

“No, I’ll head home later,” she motioned.

“O-Okay. I’ll be on my way, then. If you ever want to contact me, you can-um, well, text me.”

Immediately after saying that, he placed his card on the table before leaving with Jack in tow.

Only after the two left did Josephine retract her gaze.

On the other hand, Lewis drove back to Alvarez Manor.

Seeing the gates of Alvarez Manor, Sierra’s face paled at once. “Why did you bring me here?”

Lewis coldly stared at her, questioning, “Weren’t you the one who insisted on joining me?”

Sierra was speechless but still defended herself. “How would I know you were coming here!”

“Where did you think I was going?”

“I thought you were looking for that mute! Ugh, forget it! I’ll head home on my own,” Sierra huffed while

opening the car door to leave.

She didn’t like the place, as the housekeepers glanced disapprovingly at her during her last two visits.

It offended her that someone with a lower status judged her like she were trash. Sadly, Sierra didn’t

have a name in society. While she dared to behave arrogantly in the outside. world, she knew she had

no right to do the same in Alvarez Manor. Thus, she had to tolerate. everyone’s judgment whenever

she visited. The worst part of being there was that Sierra had. to face Nancy, Lewis’ mother. Nancy

would always find things about her to insult.

“Hmph, I have a great life. Why would I force myself to kiss up to that vile woman?” she scoffed in her

heart.

Another car arrived beside her, blocking her path before she could leave. When she saw who it

belonged to, her face froze.

The backdoor of that car opened to reveal Daphne carrying her baby. “Oh, Sierra. What are you doing

here” She saw Lewis getting out of the driver’s seat and instantly snickered, “Lewis hasn’t brought you

over in a long time. Shall we go in together?”

Sierra chuckled dryly before declining, “No, it’s fine. I’ve got something else to do. Maybe

next time.”

“But you can’t hail a cab here. Plus, it’s late, so it’s unsafe for you to travel home now. Why don’t you

stay the night?” Daphne insisted. She despised Sierra but found the latter much more tolerable than

Josephine, so she kept things civil.

Peering at Lewis, Sierra wanted to see if he would allow it.

“I’ll get my driver to send you home,” was all he said.

That made Sierra’s lips twitch as she forced herself to maintain her awkward smile. “Sure. That way, I

won’t have to call a taxi service.”

Lewis took out his phone and called a driver over, and Sierra departed Alvarez Manor in no time.

That was when Daphne looked at her brother with a stern frown. “Lewis, let’s talk.”

As if knowing what she wanted to discuss, Lewis instructed, “Get in.”

Daphne hummed in agreement, handed her baby to the nanny beside her, then got inside Lewis’

Maybach. She waited until Lewis drove to an obscure area before saying, “I thought about it, and I’ve

decided to sell my shares.”

Lewis was toying with his lighter. Only after hearing that did he use it to light up the cigarette. in his

mouth. “Are you sure?

“Mm-hmm. No matter what, I can’t stand by and watch Seth take the blow. He’s Bambam’s dad and my

husband, after all.” Daphne spoke confidently. She had made this choice after battling herself all night

over it. She even thought filling in the missing sum would make Seth love her more.

A slight smirk showed on Lewis’ face when he heard Seth’s name. He took out the cigarette from his

lips before turning to face Daphne. “Okay, I’ll have the buyer come over tomorrow, and you can chat

with them.”

“Are they trustworthy?”

“You trust me?” Lewis responded with a question of his own.

Daphne hesitated but quickly steadied herself and said, “Of course. You’re my brother. Who else can I

trust if not you?”

“Good. You can head back. I’ve got something else to do.”

“Okay.” With that, Daphne exited the car and walked home since they weren’t far from Alvarez Manor. It

would only take her a few minutes to return.

Lewis waited until she left before driving to the city’s hospital.

At that point, the doctor had given Josephine the clear to leave the hospital. Ironically, she

noticed the hospital name when she was about to depart. It turned out to be the same place Mary was

in. Without giving it too much thought, she ran toward Mary’s ward.

Mary had gotten placed in a regular three-person ward. Those spaces were often fully occupied, to the

point where patient beds lined the corridors. Everything seemed chaotic.

Josephine couldn’t find Mary on the first try, so she walked another round in the ward before. finally

noticing Mary.

A nurse stood beside Mary’s bed and complained, “Seriously, what is up with these people? They drop

off patients at our door but don’t bother answering our phone calls or coming in themselves. How will

we get their permission to treat the patient, then?”
