| looked at the buns on the table. After a moment of hesitation, | ate them anyway.

| was unsure if these guys would shed off their pretense as lawyers, hence | must ensure | had the strength to

resist when the tcame.

1 did not sleep the entire night. | felt awfully sleepy after eating, so | leaned back in the chair and dozed off.

While in a daze, | felt someone walk up besideand grabbed my arm, seemingly injectingwith something.

| tried to open my eyes to resist but my eyelids were just too heavy.

After a very long time, | finally woke up and looked at my arm. Sure enough, there was a needle hole in my arm.

Before anything could cto mind, the door opened and the two women from before walked in.

They walked up toand looked at me, saying, " Please cwith us, Ms. Lane."

| looked at them with a frown, "What tis it right now?" "Two in the afternoon," one of the women replied.

| pursed my lips. "Has my friend and a lawyer arrived?"

The woman replied coldly, "No."

My heart sank. These were not Linda Corporations' lawyers. Horton would never find out where | was.

The women held down my arms and draggedout o f the room by force.

They then tookinto a room full of medical equipment. My instincts instantly kicked in. "What do you intend to

do to me?"

A man in a white coat sitting in front ofanswered, "Don’t panic, Ms. Lane. I'm just doing a physical

examination on your heart."

| glared at him. "Why are you givinga physical examination when you're suspecting that | stole the

company's top secrets?"

"This is a formal procedure. All you need to do is give u s your full cooperation."

| roared furiously, "Do you know that this is illegal?"

The women clenched my shoulders harder. "Please cooperate, Ms. Lane."

| took a deep breath and said no more.

| was like a fish on a chopping board, at the mercy of others.

If | wanted to get out of my current predicament, | had to act when an opportunity arose before they showed

their true colors. | must not act on impulse.

The male doctor drew my blood after that, and just when | thought that he was done, he wanted to do an

intimate examination as well.

| clenched my fists and looked at him with cold eyes." What reasons do you have for conducting an intimate

examination on me?"

The man smiled faintly. "If you contracted any virus, then that would be a reason for you to steal our company's

top secrets."

My countenance darkened even more. "My apologies but | have the right to refuse. | suspect that you're not

lawyers but a criminal organization.”

The woman standing besidesneered and started threatening me. "You'd better not ask questions, Ms. Lane.

Do your best to cooperate with us or you'll suffer the consequences."

| stood up from the chair and coldly said, "You're not cops. You have no right to detainno matter what I've

done."

After a pause, | made a final attempt with the last glimmer of hope. "I need to contact my family. Now!"

The woman remained unmoved and looked indifferently at me. "This isn't the tfor you to contact your family,

Ms. Lane. Please cooperate with u s and finish the examination.”

"Never!"

| spotted a phone in the doctor's white coat out of the corners of my eyes and raised my hand to push the doctor «

without thinking.
