Chapter 1009

He did not talk toagain after that and concentrated on eating the wheat flour soup.

Of course, | was not going to start a conversation with him when he was eating, so | sat down on a chair and

quietly watched him eat.

After a while, he looked up at me. His gaze sank slightly. "Was life hard when you were in Zenon?”

| froze and looked at him in surprise. "How did you know that I lived in Zenon?"

The man laughed. "How hard could it be forto find out?"

After a pause, he continued, "I know that you have a sandalwood box, and since | want that box, | had to

investigate you. Isn't it very normal forto know these things?"

His words made sense, so | nodded and said, "Yes."

Seeing that he was merely staring atwithout saying anything, | guessed he must be waiting fort o reply

to his earlier question.

Feeling a little helpless, | said, "How could life be hard? Although | wasn't leading a luxurious life, | had

everything | needed. Besides, Zenon had a slow pace o f life and | always felt at peace when | was there. It's

just way better than here."

Jordan smiled slightly and put the bowl on the bedside table. His gaze silently fell on my face. "Do you regret

choosing Theo?"

| was stunned by the question and did not know how t o answer him. | got up and said, "There's ssoup left in

the kitchen. Do you want smore?"

Jordan narrowed his eyes and shook his head, saying, "No.”

We did not talk much after that. Seeing that it was getting late, | returned to my own room.

Lying in bed at night, | recalled Jordan's question.

Did | regret marrying Theo?

| pursed my lips and looked out the window.

There had always been just one answer to this question, and that was | had never regretted it.

Halfway through the night, | was awoken by the sound of thunder.

| sat up from the bed and turned on the bedside lamp.

When | had calmed down a little, | remembered that the window of Jordan’s room was open, but | could not recall

if he shut it afterward.

Remembering that he was injured, | figured he most probably did not shut it.

| had to go and take a look or | would be worried.

| got out of bed and left the room. | cto Jordan's room and knocked on the door.

As soon as | put my hand down, | heard something falling on the floor from inside. It created a pretty loud noise.

I quickly opened the door and walked into the bedroom to find the bedside lamp on. Jordan was not i nbed.

There was the sound of water from the bathroom, and i t sounded like Jordan was having a shower. | breathed a

sigh of relief and walked over to knock on the door. "Are you okay, Mr. Fredericks?"

Why was he taking a shower in the middle of the night? Was he awake, or had he not slept at all?

When Jordan did not respond, | grew a little worried. " Are you okay, Mr. Fredericks?"

"I'm okay," he replied, though he sounded a little weak.

Although | was worried about him, | could not push the door in when he was taking a shower, so | could only wait

outside for him.

After a long time, he finally cout of the bathroom.

| frowned. "Mr. Fredericks, you have wounds on your body and they should be kept dry. Especially now that the

weather has turned warm, it’s easy for your wounds to get infected."

| was a little angry and pulled him over to sit on a chair after saying that. | yanked the bath towel from his body «

to check his wounds.
