Chapter 104

She would do anything to dig up the truth.

After a long pause, Elgin said, “I can trust you”

Letitia blinked, totally gobsmacked. Did she hear that right? Did Elgin say he had trust in her?

“Are you for real?” Letitia asked cautiously, “You believe I didn’t harm her?”

‘I don’t want to dig into this anymore.”

Whether it was a deliberate tumble or an accident, it was lethal for both pregnant women.

Letitia was even more flabbergasted, “You won’t blame it on me anymore? Just like that?”

“As long as you play ball, we can turn the page,” Elgin said, “Bottom line, Shela’s baby is gone, and yours is still here. She’s the victim; you owe her an apology to get her forgiveness.”

“Me apologize to Shela?”

“Yes.”

“Just because she had a miscarriage? And I didn’t?”

“Yes.

Letitia laughed, “Elgin… so that’s your angle” It wasn’t just about apologizing but keeping it up until Shela forgave her. Why should she need Shela’s forgiveness?

“Yes. Letitia, I’ve already cut you a lot of slack.”

“No way,” she refused, “I don’t owe Shela anything!”

Elgin’s expression turned icy in an instant, “Letitia, learn to read the room!”

“I’ve always been stubborn, and you know it.”

If she wanted to play it smooth, she wouldn’t be in this mess right now.

Some things, it’s not that she won’t do them; she just doesn’t want to.

Elgin lifted his knee onto the bed, and with a flick, he tilted her chin up, “Letitia, you killed my child, and I’m just asking for an apology, nothing more and you still won’t give it?”

What on earth does she want! He’s been lowering his standards over and over for her!

Letitia replied, “I didn’t do anything wrong, so I won’t apologize.”

Elgin was nursing a burgeoning headache. This woman could always get on his nerves so easily!

“Letitia!” His roar almost echoed through the whole of Ivory Towers.

Still, Letitia insisted, “I’m not wrong.” The one at fault was Shela! And now she’s supposed to apologize? Not happening!

“Elgin, what I hate most is being framed, Letitia stared into his intense eyes, “especially being forced to carry the blame!”

Her dad was framed and jailed. Back then, she was too young to understand, completely clueless and powerless. Maybe if Dad had just held on, not bowed down, fought back, things could’ve turned out a bit better.

Now, the road to uncovering the truth behind Marcel Ramirez’s death… it’s so long! And she was so exhausting.

“I told you, Shela miscarried, it’s only right and proper for you to apologize, what’s the big deal?” Elgin pressed, his voice rising, “Will it kill you?”

“You can’t see the wounds inside!

Elgin’s gaze drifted down, landing awkwardly in front of her. Letitia raised her hand to block it.

“An apology could save you some hardship,” Elgin said, “Don’t make me back you into a corner every time before you come around.”

Elgin, you know how many comers you’ve backed me into…”

Latida brushed off his hand and smiled. There will come a day.”

Mer words were cryptic, and Elgin didn’t understand it, he frowned.

‘Don’t get it, huh? Letitia’s smile brightened, “No worries, you’ll find out when the time comes’

What are you talking about?”

Bon, there will come a day when you realize you’ve had me pegged wrong from the start.”

Letitia’s voice faded, her words trailing off into silence.

The two of them face to face, less than ten centimeters apart, could hear each other’s breath,

But their hearts were miles apart.

Evely time they seemed to get closer, something would come up to drive a wedge between them, making the distance even greater in an instant.

“I’ve wronged you? How’so?” Elgin closed in, nose to nose, “Letitia, that was my child! Do you have any idea how much that hurts!?”

He didn’t have much feeling for Shela, but the child was his! After Shelas miscarriage, what was Letitia doing? She was by Neil’s side, thinking she did no wrong, even standing up to him!

“Do you think it doesn’t hurt me?” Letitia shot back, her voice rising involuntarily, “When you kicked the doctor out of the OR, leaving me alone on the operating table waiting for death, did you not think how desperate I was!”

Tears welled up involuntarily, but Letitia blinked them back fiercely.

She didn’t want to cry in front of Elgin!

“Letitia, how dare you blame me after what happened!”

Elgin stepped back, straightened up, his chest heaving, his eyes fierce as blades!

Suddenly, Elgin’s hand shot up high.

Letitia instinctively flinched, blurting out, “You gonna hit me?”

Elgin’s hand trembled uncontrollably.

He really wanted to slap her! This woman, Letitia, she was infuriating!

“Go ahead, Letitia lifted her chin, “If you want to hit me, just do it. Anyway, I’m at your mercy to be sliced and diced!”

“You think I won’t hit you?”

“Sure, mighty President Ramirez, what can’t you do!”

Letitia thought, might as well take the slap.

What Elgin had done to her, wasn’t each thing more painful than a slap?

Elgin’s eyes flickered, and his hand came down swiftly.

She closed her eyes, waiting for the slap. But the pain never came. Letitia was puzzled, about to open her eyes when she heard a “thud”

near her ear.

Elgin had punched the wall beside her, and blood dripped down.

Letitia looked at him in shock, “Elgin, you…”

“I don’t hit women, that’s a line I won’t cross,” his eyes were dark, “Letitia, I’ll make you regret standing up to me today!”

He turned and strode away. His hand hung by his side, dripping blood.

Letitia stared at the bloodstains on the floor, suddenly feeling like her legs turned to jelly, and she plopped down on the bed. Why… Elgin’s slap never came. She thought for sure he was gonna lay one on her.

Only after she relaxed did Letitia realize her back was drenched in sweat.

She took a shower, crawled into bed with her heart pounding, and tossed and turned, unable to catch a wink of sleep.

This wasn’t going to be the end of it

For sure, there was some unknown dread lurking, waiting to pounce on her!

Elgin walked back to the living room, and the butler caught sight of the blood on the back of his hand, nearly jumped out of his skin, “Mr. Ramirez, what on earth… Quick, call the family doctor!”
