Chapter 42 The Auction

Anaya didn‘t take it seriously.

As he only met her several times, he didn‘t know her so much.

“Thank you for trusting me, but I am sorry that I am not ready yet to start a new relationship in the near

future. You

should not waste your time on me.”

All she had about love were painful memories.

she was not confident to fall in love with anyone at the moment.

It was an instinct to avoid something that would hurt her. Anaya even wouldn‘t throw herself into any

situation that was just possible to make that happen.

“It is only in the near future, right?”

Anaya suddenly felt that she understood the man.

He was polite and reserved, but decisive and strong. As the superior, he wouldn‘t give concessions all

the time.

“Hearst,” she called his name directly, “I‘m serious,” she said, with a more serious tone.

He stared at her deeply and seriously, “Me too.”

Anaya couldn‘t tell from his tone whether he did mean it or not.

If he did, how could he fall in love with her in such a short time?

If he didn‘t, he was really annoying to kids about this matter.

Whether he did mean it or not, she did not want to deal with him anymore.

“Mr. Helms, I would forget all that happened tonight. Please do not mention it again.”

She still owed him and if she didn‘t make it clear, it would be hard to tackle the relationship between

them.

They had known each other before long. Even if he really liked her, it was all about her appearance.

As long as she didn‘t respond to him, everything would be over when he was tired of her.

After a gaze, he turned around and left, without saying anything else.

When Anaya returned home, Aracely was squatting on the ground and playing with the dog. As soon

as she saw her, she got up and asked her questions about Hearst.

As Anaya did not want to talk, Aracely stopped inquiring.

Binge on dramas for the whole night, Anaya and Aracely got up late the next morning. Anaya went to

work before she could have breakfast.

At night, before leaving for the auction, Anaya said to Aracely, “Stay at home. Don‘t go out,

understand?”

Aracely met that jerk at a private concert. As long as Aracely did not go out at night, she should not

meet him again,

Aracely was watching Tv, lying on the sofa. “All right. I will guard your golden house. Just go.”

There was a traffic jam on the way. When Anaya arrived at the premise, the auction had begun.

The auction house had opened recently. As it was the first auction after the opening today, many

celebrities were

invited.

Having made a reservation in advance, she went straight over to her seat.

“Ms. Dutt.”

The person beside lier called out to her. She turned to him and met a beaming face.

“Mr. Seabright, what a coincidence.”

Martin looked at the two rows in front of Anaya. “Is Ms. Dutt alone?”

“Yes. Are you?”

“I am with a friend.”

He introduced the woman by his side.

Anaya recognized the slender beautiful woman.

She was an artist from the Tarleton Group.

Like Timothy, Martin had a reputation for debauchery in the circle.

The only difference was that Martin was more charming than Timothy.

They ended the conversation after a brief talk. Anaya felt a sharp gaze at the moment.

She turned her head.

Then she found Joshua was looking back at her.

Meeting her gaze, he quickly turned away.

Noticing Anaya, Lexie was unpleasant.

Such an awful woman!

Anaya didn‘t pay too much attention to them. She flipped through the manual that was handed out by

the auction house.

The necklace she was about to bid on was far behind on the list. It might take about half an hour.

She was bored as she watched the others bid for the items. Only when there was a piece of jade came

up, she was a little interested in it.

According to the auctioneer, it had a history of over 100 years and it could calm people‘s nerves.

One of the nurses in the hospital had told her that Adams was not in a good condition because he often

struggled to sleep at night.

Adams liked collecting jade antiques, so it was a good idea to acquire them for him as a present.

The bid had started at 30 thousand dollars, and now it rose to 130 thousand dollars.

Last year, the jade of the same kind was auctioned overseas at 500 thousand dollars. Anaya thought it

might be the same with it.

The price was within Anaya‘s capacity.

“200 thousand.” She raised her paddle.

Lexie recognized her voice and wanted to get the item that she wanted. She raised her paddle and

said, “201

thousand.”

Joshua frowned.

It wasn‘t because of the money, but because Lexie wanted Anaya‘s item.

He somehow was uncomfortable.

“You like collecting jade?”

“No, I want it for my father.” Lexie saw that he was annoyed and added, “It won‘t spend your money.”

Although Lexie said this, she didn‘t mean it.

A male chauvinist like Joshua wouldn‘t have his women pay for anything by herself.

If she had won this jade, Joshua would have paid for this at the end of the day. Then all she had to do

was pretend to refuse it.

Anaya also recognized it was Lexie. She glanced at her indifferently and raised her paddle. “230

thousand dollars.”

“231 thousand dollars.”

“250 thousand dollars.”

“251 thousand dollars.”

Lexie was clearly against Anaya on purpose. Every time she increased the price, she would only

increase it by i thousand. It was like she would not give up until she achieved her goal.

The price rose all the way to 501 thousand dollars.

Anaya did not raise her paddle again.

The price of the jade almost equaled its real value. If it went any higher, it would be a premium.

It would be not worth it.

Seeing that she did not raise the paddle, Lexie was secretly pleased.

It seemed that the Dutt Family was no longer strong. Anaya actually did not even dare to contend a

piece of jade with

her.

“501 thousand dollars. Is there any bid higher than this?” the auctioneer said as he hammered down.

No one spoke.

Most of the people present were senior collectors. They had an estimated value for the price of the

items. The price of this piece of jade had already reached its maximum value. If they continued to

increase the price, they would either be fools or have no place to spend it since they had too much

money.

“501 thousand dollars for once!”

“501 thousand dollars for twice!”

Martin had been looking at his screen the entire time. When he received a message, he slowly raised

his paddle and said, “1 million dollars.”

It said that “bid as he wants“, so he doubled it.

It was not a big deal for them.

Anaya reminded Martin in a low voice, “Mr. Scabright, this piece of jade is not worth this price. If

anyone else raises their paddle, you liad better not follow him.”

Martin gave a mischievous smile. “It‘s fine. My friend is rich enough.”

Anaya was speechless.

It turned out that lie was bidding for his friend. No wonder he was so generous,

Anaya thought she would definitely cut off herself from him if she was Martin‘s friend.

The bid was a waste of money.

Joshua turned around and saw them talking happily. He pursed his thin lips and then raised his paddle,

“1.1 million dollars.”

“1.3 million dollars.”

“1.4 million dollars.”

“2.5 million dollars.”

Joshua frowned more.

Martin bid very quickly. Without any logic, he just bid as he wanted.

If it wasn‘t the Seabright Family that was famous in Boston, he would think that Martin came to mess

the auction up deliberately.

Anaya didn‘t deserve it, did she?

Joshua thought his ex–wife was amazing. How could she get related to Hearst, Timothy, and Martin

Joshua clenched the paddle in his hand, his fingertips turning pale for he was so angry.

He could not give way to Martin!

He was about to raise his paddle again when Lexie held his hand.

She thought that Joshua was bidding for her. She was delighted and pretended to be reserved.

“Joshua, actually, I don‘t really want the jade. You don‘t have to spend such a big amount of money for

me. It‘s the thought that counts...”
